Chamber, US Chamber and Congressman Radanovich Host Open Forum to Discuss Telecommunications Reform

The Greater Fresno Area Chamber of Commerce, the U.S. Chamber and the TeleCONSENSUS coalition have teamed up to host “Revitalizing the Telecommunications Industry: What it Means for California” on Wednesday, January 25, from 7:30 to 10:00 a.m. at Pardini’s Restaurant, 2257 W. Shaw Avenue.

The forum will feature a panel discussion about the benefits that American business can realize from a robust telecommunications system, the problems facing the U.S. telecommunications industry, and the solutions required to revitalize this critical sector of the economy. Representative George P. Radanovich (R-CA-19) has committed to attend and will share his thoughts about the economic gains that can be achieved through telecommunications reform.

In a recent telephone interview Rep. George Radanovich said, “The revitalization of the telecommunications industry means great things for California. With the old SBC (now AT&T) and Verizon entering into the video market, the cable industry beginning to offer voice services, and the wireless industry offering numerous voice, video and data channels simultaneously, the economy and consumers are in a win-win position. This means that additional jobs will be added to the workforce and the increased competition will bring lower prices, more choices and better customer service," he said.

The panel will consist of senior representatives from national and local telecommunications providers, consumers, and equipment manufacturers. Bill Kovacs, the U.S. Chamber’s Vice President of Environment, Technology, and Regulatory Affairs, will lead the panel discussion.

“It is very important that our elected officials get input from all the segments of industry that this bill will directly affect. This hearing will give people the opportunity to voice their opinions and needs,” said Al Smith, Fresno Chamber President/CEO.
