Fresno Chamber
Joins Coalition to Promote a Sustainable Environment and Economy

The Fresno Chamber
SUPPORTS and becomes a member of Sustainable Environment and
Economy for California (SEECalifornia) because the Chamber
supports measures that promote a voluntary market-based air
quality programs and support giving businesses reasonable
choices that are fuel neutral.
Background
From 1990 to 2001 California's economy experienced the largest
gross state product growth of any state in the country. During
the same period, the state successfully slowed the rate of
growth in greenhouse gas emissions, demonstrating that
California can have both a strong economy and high environmental
standards.
In 2001, California ranked fourth lowest in carbon emissions per
capita and fifth lowest among the states in carbon dioxide (CO2)
emissions from fossil fuel consumption per unit of GSP.
Compared to other states, California has relatively low carbon
use intensity due to the success of state energy efficiency
programs.
Summary
SEE California is a
broad coalition working to ensure that any greenhouse gas
policies provide tangible, long-term solutions that will
significantly mitigate the impacts of climate change on the
state, while taking into account direct impacts on California
jobs, economy and the environment.
In January 2006, the California Businesses launched an effort to
ensure California’s Greenhouse Gas Emissions reduction plans
balance the environment and the economy. The purpose of the
coalition is to ensure that efforts to reduce California
greenhouse gas emissions take into account direct impacts on
California jobs, economy, and environment.
