State Issues

Transportation

Support measures that provide solutions that repair the state and regional transportation infrastructure.

Proposition 1A: Close the Prop 42 loophole (April 2006)

The Chamber supports the broad-based coalition of business, labor, local government, and community leaders is collecting signatures to qualify a constitutional amendment for the November 2006 ballot. The passage of this measure is intended to close the Prop. 42 loophole, uphold the will of voters, and ensure once and for all that the sales taxes paid at the pump are used for transportation improvements. This measure would prevent the Governor and Legislature from diverting the sales taxes on gasoline to non-transportation expenses. It will also require the State to reimburse the $2.5 billion in funds previously diverted. It responsibly allows 10 years for repayment to avoid any immediate fiscal impact.

SB 1266 (PROP 1B) (June 2006)

The Chamber supports SB 1266 which would authorize the sale of $18.925 billion of general obligation bonds for a spectrum of transportation related capital improvements, upon voter approval at the November 7, 2006 statewide general election.

Support the development of transportation infrastructure to accommodate future economic and population growth.

144th Fighter Wing (March 2006)

The 144th fighter wing is asking for support to assign F-15 aircraft to the 144th Fighter Wing to replace the F-16 Fighter Wing we currently use, and are dated to expire in the year 2012; if they are not replaced our air security for the Southwest United States will come from Montana.

The Fresno Chamber SUPPORTS the necessary actions, within the U.S. Air Force, Air Combat Command and the National Guard Bureau, to assign F-15 aircraft to the 144th Fighter Wing either from the present U.S. Air Force inventory of F-15 aircraft or through the procurement of additional F-15 aircraft.

- The Chamber will support the letter writing campaign.
- The Chamber will write a letter to members of the delegation, to make sure they are all on board.
- The Chamber will also encourage a personal letter writing a campaign from individuals to elected officials on the state and federal level.

Proposition 1E (June 2006)

The Chamber supports Proposition 1E which would enact Disaster Preparedness and Flood Prevention Bond Act of 2006, which would authorize $.090 billion worth of general obligation bonds, from which sale proceeds would be allocated to infrastructure projects for flood protection and levee repair and improvement
