Downtown Noise Ordinance
Chamber President & CEO Al Smith and Government Affairs Manager
Amy Huerta testified before the City Council on Tuesday in
conceptual support of a proposed alteration to the current
downtown noise ordinance. This comes as a recommendation by
Mayor Autry’s Creative Economy Council as outlined in the
report, "Making the Grass Greener: Recommendations to Retain,
Attract, Develop and Support Knowledge Workers." The proposed
alteration would relax the current ordinance, extending hours
and allowing for higher decibel limits, which should help spur
nightlife in the downtown area.
In response to the proposal Al
Smith said, “Downtown is the heart of our city and it needs to
be a healthy heart. Because business follows where people go, it
is imperative that we support items that will have a positive
impact on business and contribute to the ongoing effort to
revitalize our city’s core.”
